Newry and Mourne Council recycled 38% in 2013/14

This is a great achievement and we thank everyone who recycles their waste as much as possible.

In 2013/14 we recycled 15,207 tonnes of material from the blue bin, Household recycling Centres and bring sites. Unfortunately we also produced and landfilled 23,920t of household waste.

Waste disposal costs the Council and ratepayers a lot of money. The cost of disposing waste to landfill is £80 per ton, so dumping thousands of tonnes of waste in landfill is becoming increasingly expensive. If we recycled more waste we wouldn’t need to send so much to landfill, which would save us all money.

Black and blue bins will be collected on alternative weekly collections throughout the District. If you have any queries regarding these collections or recycling in general please contact our customer services department on 028 30313233 or email recycling@nmandd.org
